Botox for a Youthful Look in Greensboro

When you look into the mirror, who is it that’s looking back at you? Is it the young and vibrant person you feel like on the inside? Or are you surprised to encounter a face with more fine lines and wrinkles than you expected?

One of the major causes of wrinkles is muscle movement, which explains why we so often develop fine lines around our eyes, mouth, and eyebrows. These are the places where expression happens—but it’s also where a lot of taxing muscle movements occur, due to stress, frowning, and squinting.

Botox smooths these wrinkles out by relaxing the muscles, erasing and even preventing visible signs of aging. If you’re ready to learn more about how Botox can help you achieve youthful skin that matches how you feel on the inside, Brassfield Dermatology is here to help.

QUESTIONS

Botox FAQs

You’re familiar with the name, but it’s natural to have questions about this world-renowned treatment. We’ve answered a few of the most common questions we receive below. If you don’t see your question here, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our Greensboro office today.

Botox is a specialized substance called a neuromodulator, which means it temporarily reduces muscle movement where it is injected. This reduction in movement actually relaxes the muscles and reduces the depth of wrinkles. Botox can be used in many different areas of the face, including:

  • Forehead wrinkles
  • Crow’s feet
  • Marionette lines (around the corners of the mouth)
  • Smoker’s lines
  • Neck bands
  • Sagging brows
  • Glabellar lines (between your eyebrows)
  • More

Botox can also help reduce excessive sweating, treat migraines, and ease TMJ disorders.

Most patients will see dramatic skin-smoothing effects within 7 days of their Botox treatment. Depending on the depth of your wrinkles and your overall aesthetic goals, it may take more than one treatment to reach your desired results.

Each person metabolizes Botox at a different rate, but in general, results will last for about three to four months. Many patients set up a repeating schedule to stay on top of their results, while others are only interested in using the treatment once. It’s up to you!

Botox is one of many neuromodulator substances that use botulinum toxin A, a bacteria that blocks nerve signals to the muscle where it is injected.

Botox is safe for use when it is administered by a board-certified dermatologist, like Dr. Sean McCarthy at Brassfield Dermatology. Dr. McCarthy and his team have a deep understanding of facial anatomy, allowing them to safely and accurately place Botox for a natural look.

Botox can be dangerous if administered by a less experienced provider, and side effects such as the dropping of a brow or eyelid (ptosis) are possible if it is injected in the wrong area.

Some people use Botox as a preventative measure to slow down the progress of wrinkle development. Because Botox reduces the facial movements that cause wrinkles in the first place, it can slow them down significantly. Of course, nothing can stop wrinkles from forming forever, but many people enjoy the “prejuvenation” effects of Botox for years of smoother skin.
